Weighted ball programs vs The LOWER HALF….& the infamous “Common Sense!”
Hello Coaches, Players and Trainers,
A topic that I’ve wanted to put my 2 cents in for awhile…..
Understand this! The younger the player the less developed his body is the less stress he can take before he breaks. I know….COMMON SENSE!
When we speed up the arm it also increases stress…..I know more COMMON SENSE!
So this “Weighted Ball Trend”……….Do we need to take a step back and use some COMMON SENSE?
I’m not bashing “Weighted Ball Drills” I’m just trying to point out the obvious…….If the Lower Half does not do its job the arm has to do more work and “Arm Stress Elevates and Velocity Declines”…..COMMON SENSE!
With the studies that have been done (that seems like coaches are ignoring) it is proven that…..INCREASED LEG DRIVE THAT TRANSFERS INTO THE FRONT BRACING LEG AND THROUGH THE HIPS…….GET THIS…..DECREASES ARM STRESS (DAMN!) AND INCREASES…VELOCITY!!! (YEEEHHHAW!)
Here’s a blurb from a study from 2 SMART Dudes:
Kibler and Chandler calculated that a 20% decrease in kinetic energy delivered from (back leg drive) to the hip and trunk to the arm requires a 34% increase in the rotational velocity of the shoulder to impart the same amount of force to the hand.
IF THERE’S A LICK OF COMMON SENSE IN THAT BODY OF YOURS UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND TRAIN THE LOWER HALF FIRST ………THEN THE UPPER HALF!….CAPS LOCK FOR A REASON!

I’ve developed a training device that will give your pitchers instant “Audible Feedback and Feel” when they engage the “LOWER HALF” The Lower Half is the most under developed phase of the delivery…..why? Because we can’t give them a “Verbal Cue or Drill” that translates to what should happen on a mound!
